Preparing for a Cremation Burial

Home / Cemetery in Guelph / Preparing for a Cremation Burial

At Woodlawn Memorial Park, we receive calls from both Funeral Homes and families who are looking to schedule the interment of their loved ones. A cremation burial are a service that we provide all year round, and our thoughtful process will ensure that you are supported along the way.

Here is what you can expect when preparing for a cremation burial:

Step 1: Initial Contact and Documentation

When you call, our staff will gather information regarding the deceased as well as next of kin information. This will allow the appropriate people to review and assist with completing arrangements.

After meeting with families and completing the appropriate documents, the information will be passed along to our grounds team who will begin interment preparation.

Step 2: Review Location and Complete Measurements of Grave

Our team will receive the location information on your internment order and will complete a site assessment and conduct measurements at the location to ensure the opening will accommodate the urn dimensions provided.

Once a staff member completes the layout for location and measurements they will call for another team member to review and ensure there are no issues or concerns. Following this verification and approval, we will commence digging in preparation for the burial.

For cremation in-ground inurnment we aim for a 30-36” depth. This allows families to lower the urn into the grave themselves, if they wish. This can be performed by the family employing an urn bag with drawstrings to assist with lowering the urn into the grave.

Step 3: Finishing touches

Once our team has prepared the burial space they will dress the location with greens and a platform to cover the opening where the urn can be placed for the gathering.

Once family and friends have said their final goodbye to their loved one and have departed, our staff will complete the closing of the grave.
