Checking In On Our Community

Home / Uncategorized / Checking In On Our Community

Lately, things feel a bit chaotic for many of us. Services are limited to essential only and we have all been instructed to stay home and self isolate to flatten the curve of Coronavirus (COVID-19).

Many of us have been in self-isolation for 2 weeks now and are beginning to feel stress and anxiety build.

The team at Woodlawn Memorial Park wants to check in on our community and let you to know that you are not alone.

Although our office is closed and we are only servicing those in need, we want you to know that our grounds are open to you.

How To Get Outside During A Quarantine

Did you know that Woodlawn Memorial Park has wide, paved, winding roads that total over 4km? Or that part of the Trans-Canada Trail runs through Woodlawn?

Our cemetery is over 160 years old and there’s so much history to explore here.

Why not get some outdoor exercise by creating a game with your children. See who can find the oldest monument, or who can find a monument with an angel on it first? These are just a couple of fun and lighthearted ideas to keep children interested and stimulated during their walk.

Our grounds are a great place to visit when you want to get out of your home for a bit, enjoy the fresh air, and get some exercise. Walking is a great way that you can support both your physical and mental health, as recommended by the Government of Canada.

Self-Care During Self-Isolation

Some other ways to practice self-care and to take care of your mental health while self-isolating include:

  1. Create and stick to a schedule
  2. Stay connected to friends and family via video chat or phone calls
  3. Make time for walks, hot baths, reading, or whatever feels good to you
  4. Eat healthy, nutritious food

We encourage you to bring your family and pets out for a walk and enjoy the beauty and peace around you.

As many others are using our grounds to relax and unwind, we ask that you please be respectful and clean up after yourselves and your pets, and keep a safe distance of at least 2 metres as you encounter others enjoying the park.

Check out our website for more interesting facts and tour recommendations for your walk through Woodlawn.

While we are all doing our part to help slow the spread of COVID-19 and its impact on our community, remember to take care of yourself and check in with your loved ones.

Stay safe & healthy

The Team at Woodlawn Memorial Park
