As 2024 draws to a close, we take a moment to reflect on the strides made at Woodlawn Memorial Park. It has been a year of growth, innovation, and deepening connections with our community.

Expansion of Our Grounds

One of the most significant milestones this year has been the beginning of an expansion on our cemetery grounds. This project has been thoughtfully designed to ensure we can continue to provide a serene resting place for generations to come. Offering our families a Green Burial Option (following the 5 Principles of Green Burial), unique cremation lots, and traditional burial options. As the expansion progresses, we remain committed to maintaining the natural beauty and tranquillity that makes our grounds a place of peace and remembrance.

Welcoming Nature: Honey Bees on the Grounds

3 beekeepers

We welcomed honey bee colonies to the cemetery this year. These industrious pollinators not only enhance the health of our local ecosystem but also add a sense of life and vibrancy to our grounds. Our team members have taken great pride in the maintenance of the honey bees and the harvest of honey. Jars are available at our office, and all proceeds go towards our Arbour Fund to plant new trees and maintain our existing tree canopy.

Enhancing Accessibility

This year, we also focused on improving accessibility to our office for visitors and staff alike. The renovation of the office entrance, including a new door with an automatic opener and ramp, ensures that everyone can comfortably access our facilities, regardless of mobility.

A Unique Tribute: Cutting Boards from Our Trees

Wooden cutting board

As part of our commitment to sustainability, we repurposed wood from trees that had to be removed for safety or maintenance reasons. The result is a collection of beautifully crafted cutting boards and charcuterie boards, available for purchase. Each board carries the story of the trees that have stood watch over our grounds, serving as a tangible connection to this special place. Boards can be purchased at the office and all proceeds go towards our Arbour Fund.

Events to Honour Loved Ones

A walk to remember event for Mother's Day.

Our community events this year have been particularly meaningful, offering moments of shared remembrance and healing. From Mother’s Eve, planting notes to our loved ones and ending with a Walk to Remember. As well as our Classic Car Night to honour all fathers and celebrate the fun times together. Finishing off the year with our Remembrance Day Service to honour all those who served and sacrificed their life for our freedom. These gatherings have brought people together to celebrate and honour the lives of those who have touched our hearts.

Digitizing Records

We’ve taken a significant step forward in preserving and streamlining our historical records by transitioning from paper to a digital system. This update is still a working process, but it will ensure quick accessibility of our records to allow us to serve families more efficiently.

Looking Ahead: A Year of Continued Growth

Woodlawn Memorial Team

As we move into the new year, our focus will remain on growth and service. With the ongoing expansion of our grounds and a commitment to furthering sustainability and innovation, we aim to honour the past while embracing the future.

We are grateful for the trust and support of our community and look forward to continuing to serve with care and compassion. Here’s to a new year filled with growth, remembrance, and connection.

Wishing you peace and renewal in the year ahead,
The Team at Woodlawn Memorial Park
